Workshop will show retailers and manufacturers how to cool the risk of Europe’s hottest products

Run by ECR Europe Shrinkage Group supported by Checkpoint Systems Tuesday 18 May, 2010, Brussels, Belgium.

Brussels, April 22nd – Shrinkage costs retailers $235 billion globally – even before spending on preventive measures is taken into account. But which products are most susceptible to stock loss in Europe and what constitutes best practice in fighting the problem?

At an interactive one-day workshop, ‘Cooling the Risk of Hot Products’, academic experts will join senior practitioners from Best Buy, AS Watson Group, L’Oréal and Lodge Services to discuss these key issues in managing shrinkage. The event, aimed at food retailers, the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries and FMCG manufacturers, takes place on 18 May, 2010 at the Sheraton Hotel, Brussels Airport, Belgium. It is part of a seminar programme run by ECR Europe Shrinkage Group, and is supported by Checkpoint Systems, a leading supplier of shrink management, apparel labelling and merchandise visibility solutions.

“Delegates will have access to the latest academic research, as well as practical insights and ideas from companies that have developed successful approaches for managing shrink. It will be a thought-provoking day for those involved in security and loss prevention, logistics and operations, and supply chain management,” said Colin Peacock, Manufacturer Co-Chair, ECR Europe Shrinkage Project, and P & G’s Director of Brand Protection and On-Shelf Availability.

Adrian Beck, Head of the Department of Criminology at the University of Leicester in the UK and a loss prevention specialist, will unveil a new study into the 50 hottest products in Europe. He will then lead a discussion on reducing the risk to the most vulnerable items, such as delicatessen products, eye-liner, lingerie and mobile phones.

The agenda also features retailer case studies highlighting current strategic and operational initiatives to reduce shrinkage. Among the topics being covered are: how to measure hot products in the supply chain; communicating shrinkage in retail organisations; and the practicalities of suppliers taking collaborative action.

Delegates will have the opportunity to benchmark their hot products against those of other retailers in Europe, and to contribute their own views and experience during the workshop.

“Greater collaboration between retailers and manufacturers is essential to tackling shrinkage effectively. The seminar will provide a forum for exchanging ideas and for working together to reduce the risk of vulnerable goods,” added John Fonteijn, Retailer Co-Chair, ECR Europe Shrinkage Project, and Head of Group Asset Protection, Ahold.

Commenting on Checkpoint’s involvement, Neil Matthews, Vice President and General Manager, North and Central Europe said: “Checkpoint is committed to enabling retailers to protect the hottest products, while ensuring a positive shopping experience for consumers. We are, therefore, pleased to support the event run by ECR Europe Shrinkage Group.”
